The HKF Xmas Appeal

WordPress Template 2

The Helena Kennedy Foundation has launched its first ever Xmas appeal to help raise funds during the 2020/21 academic year.

The Foundation has set a goal of raising £3,000 over the Xmas period, which would pay for the cost of a bursary for one student.

Given the impact of COVID-19 on education, it is more essential than ever that we are able to support disadvantaged students whilst they are at university. Can you donate?

Full details of the Xmas appeal can be found below.

Why we need your help

The Helena Kennedy Foundation provides bursaries to help support Further Education students progress to Higher Education. The Foundation’s students experience severe financial hardship as well as social and cultural disadvantage, combined with difficult personal circumstances.

Examples of what our bursary winners spend their bursary on can include:

  • Childcare as a single parent whilst they attend lectures
  • Rent deposit for a student who maybe the first person in their family to go to university
  • Buying everyday essentials such as food, personal care
  • Travel, some of our winners have to use a ferry to get to University and this is expensive
  • Transport, care of their car. Some of our winners are on placement in hospitals and need a car to travel

Can you do a sponsored run? Or run a bake sale?

“The bursary has supported me, receiving a bursary from HFK has helped me on multiple levels, not only has it removed some of the financial strain that had been a barrier for me attending Higher Education but the knowledge that someone has sponsored me to go to university has given me a real sense of support and belief in my academic abilities that I would not have otherwise had. This has helped to provide motivation when my mental illnesses have provided challenges with continuing my education. For me, the bursary has given much more than financial aid, but has also increased my self-esteem”.

– Jonah, 2019 Bursary winner
