Celebration time at House of Lords for Bursary winners

The Helena Kennedy Foundation celebration event held on 18th March 2019 at the house of Lords recognised over 75 students who received a bursary.

The event brought together students who have overcome barriers to education and progressed from FE colleges from across the UK  into higher education. The event was supported by the Skills and Education Group.  All bursary winners selected received a bursary of up to £2,250 to help cover the costs of university study, as well as on-going guidance and training from the Foundation.

The Helena Kennedy Foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary in November 2018.  The Foundation was set up to take forward the findings of her seminal ‘Learning Works’ report. Speaking at the event, said: ” These awards are a vital lifeline for students who have faced many hardships but have been determined to persevere.  I have seen how this opportunity creates a positive ripple effect for the rest of their family.”

Dr Ann Limb CBE DL , Founder and Vice president, said: “I am delighted to celebrate the achievement of the students today who face, and pleased that through the Foundation we are able to support students from across the UK who need just a chance to progress and change their lives. I am equally thrilled the Skills and Education group were able to support the event as well as sponsor bursaries for our students”.

Paul Eeles, Chief Executive for Skills and Education Group stated “ Further Education transforms lives and gives everyone who chooses a vocational route an opportunity to succeed….what we do matters.  It matters more than any of us realise!”.
