Volunteer Activities
We are a flexible organisation which can help to enhance your skills in the areas that you enjoy, whilst challenging you in new areas that you want to explore. The types of volunteering opportunities we provide are:
On-line peer mentoring
The HKF On-line peer mentoring scheme matches up previous award winners with new students to provide on-line peer mentoring, befriending and support. The level of commitment to this role will vary depending on the amount of contact that the mentee chooses to maintain.
General Volunteers
These volunteers are people who wish to support the Foundation in administrative, fundraising and events management roles. The terms of their role are more flexible than for other types of volunteer as they can choose what tasks they would like to help in. This provides great experience for anyone wanting to gain employment in the charity sector.
Interns
HKF involves volunteers on a more permanent basis in the form of a graduate/undergraduate internships, which are offered to someone who wants to gain work experience with a pioneering national charity. This involves a far greater commitment than most of our volunteer roles as the placement is for nine to twelve months. The intern will be involved with administration, fundraising, policy and communications, project and events management, and publicity and marketing.
Student Ambassadors
Student Ambassadors are HKF Award Winners who are willing to represent HKF at high profile events by talking about their experiences of Higher Education and the role that the Foundation has played in getting them to where they are now. They are asked to participate in up to five events per year.
Student Support Volunteers
This body of volunteers mainly consists of HKF staff and Trustees, whose main purpose is to be the first point of contact for Award Winners, providing a friendly ear, and information on HKF services and other support organisations. The time commitment for these volunteers will depend on the amount of contact their allocated students make with them.
Trustees
The Board of Trustees helps to ensure that HKF has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and takes responsibility for the performance of HKF and for its corporate behaviour. They sit on the Board initially for one term of five years which is renewable for a second term, and contribute a minimum of 12 days per year to the role.
